My paintings comprise a personal iconography and palette that I’ve developed over the years. Both the images and the colors have to resonate with me in order to have strength.
I generally work in thematic series, which can be anywhere from two or three paintings to six or seven. When the work becomes repetitive, I know I’ve explored that theme as far as I can, and it’s time to move on. The symbols in the work speak to whatever theme I’m concentrating on, but there are also symbols that I come back to again and again, adapting them to the current theme.
Color, texture, and pattern are also important elements in my work; paint and collage give me the greatest flexibility to work with those elements. I love the process of painting, as well as the satisfaction when a painting feels like a success.
